"Object Alchemy: New Sculptures by Lee Hoag" opens tonight, 5:30-9 p.m., at AXOM Gallery (176 Anderson Alley, 2nd floor). Hoag has crafted found objects into entirely new, handmade objects bearing simultaneous resemblance to many things and also nothing in particular. The show remains on view through April 25. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 232-6030 or visit axomgallery.com.

Also Friday night, City Hall (30 Church Street) will host an awards ceremony and book release 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and exhibition reception, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., for "Life Behind the Photo." The work is by student participants in Studio 678, the Wilson Academy Photo Club, a free program of the Community Darkroom at Genesee Center for the Arts & Education. The work will remain on view in The Link Gallery at City Hall through May 4. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 271-5920 or email [email protected].

Since the weather's not as beastly as it's been, consider a little weekend trek to Schweinfurth Art Center (205 Genesee St., Auburn), to check out the annual "Made in New York" showcase of regional art. An artists' reception and award presentation will be held tomorrow: Saturday, March 28, 3-5 p.m., featuring 73 works of art by 56 NYS artists. The show remains up through June 7. For more info, call 315-255-1533 or visit schweinfurthartcenter.org.
