The State Supreme Court will hear arguments in a lawsuit against the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Attorney Eileen Buholtz is suing to invalidate the RPO board’s annual meeting, which was held on January 23, including the results of board member elections. Buholtz ran for a board seat as a write-in candidate, and in her lawsuit she says that RPO officials didn’t property notify all of the organization’s members who would have been eligible to vote.

She also alleges that RPO officials didn’t recognize write-in ballots submitted at the annual meeting.

The hearing is at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.

The 2013 Mayor’s Ball is this weekend.

The black-tie-optional event begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, with a VIP reception. Dinner and dancing starts at 7 p.m.

When the Monroe County Legislature meets on Tuesday, it will set a public hearing on legislation to regulate second-dealers and pawnbrokers. Republican Carmen Gumina, who proposed the law, has said it’s intended to help law enforcement officials recover stolen property.

The legislation would require second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers to get a license from the county, though the law would only apply in communities without similar ordinances on the books. The proposed law would require dealers to photograph purchased items and submit the images to a database maintained by the sheriff’s office. They’d also be required to hold the items for 14 days.

The Rochester school board will hold its second budget hearing at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Board members will have an opportunity to question Superintendent Bolgen Vargas about his $728 million proposed budget for the coming school year.

The meeting is open to the public, but only board members can ask questions.

Vargas will also hold one of his Coffee and Conversation events to field questions from students, parents, teachers, and residents at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 11.
