Brooks unveiling budget today

Posted By on Tue, Nov 12, 2013 at 11:12 AM

Much of the news coming out of the Monroe County government lately has focused on the state Attorney General's Office probe into local development corporations. But today, County Executive Maggie Brooks will take care of a bit of routine county business.

Brooks will unveil her 2014 budget proposal to the County Legislature at 6 p.m. today.

The budget lays out about $1 billion in spending along with the revenues the county will use to support it. The property tax levy will probably increase, reflecting new construction and any changes in property assessments countywide. But it's highly unlikely that Brooks proposal will raise the tax rate, which is currently $8.99 per $1,000 assessed value. Brooks considers the flat tax rate to be one of the biggest accomplishments of her administration.

As for any big initiatives or plans, the administration hasn't offered any hints. But budget proposals always have the potential to contain surprises.
