Monroe County officials plan to sell about 130 acres of land adjacent to the Mill Seat Landfill to the Monroe County Industrial Development Agency.
COMIDA would pay approximately $1.4 million for the land on Brew Road in the Town of Riga, according to a County Legislature referral released late yesterday. The transaction had been budgeted for this year and is not part of any specific COMIDA project, says county spokesperson Justin Feasel.
The county has marketed the property for two years but has been unable to find a buyer, Feasel says. COMIDA is much better positioned for that task, he says, especially since it works closely with Empire State Development. And because the site is adjacent to the landfill, it does have certain amenities, such as sewer service, that could make it attractive to industry, he says.
The Legislature will take up the referral during two committee meetings on Wednesday. But before it can approve the sale, the Legislature has to schedule and hold a public hearing.
