WEEK AHEAD: Services for Mario Cuomo; RPD reorg meeting; RCSD school expo

Calling hours for former Democratic governor Mario Cuomo will be held today at a funeral home in Manhattan. His funeral services, which are open to the public, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Manhattan.

Cuomo, father of Governor Andrew Cuomo, died last week at the age of 82. Mario Cuomo served as governor from 1983 to 1994, and was at one time considered a leading presidential contender. The New York Times says that Cuomo grew to “personify the liberal wing” of the national Democratic Party, and that he often challenged then-President Ronald Reagan’s conservative vision of government.

The Rochester Police Department will hold a community meeting in the Clinton Section to discuss the RPD’s new five-section patrol model and to give residents an opportunity to meet the new section captains. The meeting is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, in the Northeast Neighborhood Service Center community room, 500 Norton Street.

The RPD is scheduled to implement its new patrol model in March. The model will replace the two-division model that has been in place since 2004.

The sections are: Lake Section in the Northwest; Genesee Section in the Southwest; Goodman Section in the Southeast; and Clinton Section in the Northeast. Central Section will patrol downtown and some of the adjacent neighborhoods. BY CHRISTINE CARRIE FIEN

The Rochester City School District will hold a school expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 10. Parents and students for grades 7 to 12 can explore their options for the school that best suits their needs, interact with staff, and learn more about what each school offers.

Placement staff will be available and early registration is encouraged. The event will be held at Monroe Community College’s Damon City Campus, 228 East Main Street. Parking for the event is free in the Mortimer Street garage. BY TIM LOUIS MACALUSO
