The city’s Zoning Board of Appeals didn’t make a decision at a meeting earlier today regarding controversial plans for an Aldi grocery store on the corner of Blossom and Winton Roads.

Aldi submitted revised plans last month in an effort to address numerous concerns about the project. But the revisions failed to persuade many residents from the Browncroft and North Winton Village neighborhoods near the site.

At today’s meeting, about 16 people spoke against the proposed store, some questioning the developer’s request for variances; what he is really asking for, they said, is spot rezoning. The project, even in its revised form, would require allowing a 15,000-square-foot structure to be built on a site that is zoned for 3,000 square feet.

No date was set for when the board would make its decision.
