The Penfield Town Board will vote on appointments to the Shadow Pines/Shadow Lakes Properties Land Use Committee.

Shadow Pines and Shadow Lakes are Penfield golf courses owned by the Dolomite Group. The company put the courses up for sale, and residents were alarmed by the potential for development at the sites, which they say could lead to traffic and environmental problems, and could burden the school district.

The former owners of the Dolomite quarry in Penfield are reportedly interested in buying the Shadow Lakes course.

The committee will look at land use and zoning issues related to the properties and will also examine possible ways to preserve the properties or to keep them as functioning golf courses. BY JEREMY MOULE

A collaboration of independent media will show the film “Terrorizing Dissent,” an expose of events at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8. The film looks at what happens when political dissent is suppressed, and how the $50 million that Homeland Security gave local authorities was used. The event will be held at The Flying Squirrel Community Space, 285 Clarissa Street. It’s free, but donations are welcome. BY TIM LOUIS MACALUSO
