JAZZ: Joe Locke/Geoffrey Keezer Group (12/7)
Published by Ron Netsky on Dec 06, 2006
On their recent album, Live in Seattle, the Joe Locke/Geoffrey Keezer Group leaves no doubt it is one of the most electrifying acts on the jazz circuit today. Accompanied by the powerful combination of Mike Pope on bass and Terreon Gully on drums, the group burns through the set with passion continually building. Locke's "Van Gogh By Numbers," Keezer's "Fractured," and other tunes showcase both leaders' composing skills, but what really sets the quartet apart is its cohesion; the group gives new meaning to the term "group dynamics." Of course, anyone who heard them at last June's Rochester International Jazz Festival knows what to expect when the group hits Water Street Music Hall this Thursday. Come to think of it, this sort of energy level has been Locke's modus operandi since he began his career in Rochester three decades ago.Joe Locke/Geoffrey Keezer Group plays Thursday, December 7, 7 p.m. (doors) at Water Street Music Hall, 204 North Water Street, 325-5600, $20-$25.
