There is a strip of restaurants/bars in Pittsford that caters to the over-35, single, and possibly cosmetically enhanced crowd. I'm not bashing 30somethings, or those with breast augmentations; just throwing light on a particular group of people, a group of people I actually admire. Northfield, Black & Blue and JoJo are the places for this crowd to be, and with good reason.

The last time I was at Northfield, a group of women well past their 30th birthdays stood in the corner. They were extraordinarily hot, the "I just left my husband" hot, with a "he paid for my breasts but can't enjoy them" sneer. Their sexually charged, bitter attitudes had just about every man staring, and the 20something girls were left in the dust. It was inspiring.

To break them down, JoJo (60 North Main Street, Pittsford, 385-3108) is the perfect first-date place or after-work stop. The bar wraps around a wood-burning stove, with views of flat-screen televisions and servings of tasty American bistro food. JoJo creates a warm and enticing atmosphere. You may notice a few patrons at the bar waiting for their blind date or scoping the room for an Internet love match. But don't judge; you could be on that same bar stool sooner or later.

As we move on to Black & Blue (3349 Monroe Avenue, Pittsford, 421-8111) we find a similar upscale vibe. There really isn't a bad word to say about the place --- it looks like it should be planted in NYC, not in the Pittsford Plaza. The design is sexy, refined, and elegant. The crowd is nicely dressed, showered, and sipping martinis. It's a place you can go to network, to impress, or show off new assets.

Right down the street you'll find Northfield (3001 Monroe Avenue, Pittsford, 641-0468). This is a hook-up bar. It's dark and deliciously dangerous inside; once a hang-out for Guidos everywhere, the place has now expanded to the attractive divorcee not necessarily looking for love. In the summer, Northfields makes great use of its outdoor patio. On a Friday after 6 you'll be welcomed with a crowd.

These three spots may cater to an older crowd, but it's a crowd with nice butts that enjoy hanging out in sophisticated surroundings.
