Who knew a myth existed that Latino artists are all similar, expressing common experiences and ambitions? Is there one for French artists? And Dutch? Regardless, the Memorial Art Gallery's newest exhibit is prepared to enlighten us. "TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American and Latino Art" is a show of 39 pieces on loan from the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The exhibit also includes a piece from the Smithsonian, writer Sandra Cisneros' portrait by Angel Rodriguez-Diaz, "The Protagonist of an Endless Story."
The exhibit opens with a preview party Friday, October 5, 8-11 p.m.; tickets run $11-$17. The exhibit continues through December 30. Regular viewing hours are Wednesday-Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursdays until 9 p.m. Admission is $3-$7, with a reduced price of $3 on Thursday evenings. The MAG is located at 500 University Avenue.
