ART EVENTS: Art Trails (10/6-10/7)

Published by Dale Evans on Oct 03, 2007

When the leaves begin to change and the daylight casts that dramatic slant, it's the perfect time for a pleasure drive with no destination in mind. But if not having a destination makes you anxious, art trails provide places to explore without taking away the spontaneity. The premise is simple: pick up or download a map and then take your sweet time going from artist's studio to artist's studio to see works in progress, observe demonstrations, or just converse with artists one-on-one.

Freshly recovered from the Grape Festival, Naples again invites us over to its sixth annual Naples Open Studio Trail. The tour covers artists working in an array of media, from hand-blown glass and paper cutting, to sculpture and glowing neon. The trail is open Saturday and Sunday, October 6-7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Preview the artists and download the map at naplesopenstudiotrail.com.

Also this weekend is the Elmira Open Studio Tour. Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday noon-5 p.m. elmiraopenstudiotour.com.

Beginning next weekend, October 13-14, you can catch the Watkins Glen Art Trail (Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday noon-5 p.m., earts.org), Artists of the Genesee Valley Studio Tour (Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., gvcaonline.org), and the IthacaArtTrail (Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., arttrail.com; continues October 20-21).

Closer to home, Anderson Alley Artists begin their Second Saturdays Open Studios, open the second Saturday of each month from October through May, noon-4 p.m. 250 N Goodman Street, 473-0070, andersonalleyartists.com. - BY DALE A. EVANS
