ENVIRONMENT: On the DEC's new chief

Published on Oct 09, 2007
As former Region 8 directors of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Avon, we had the good fortune to have Paul D'Amato serve as our regional attorney.

Recently, with a change in the governor's office, after a thorough review and interview process, Paul D'Amato was named regional director after Sean Hanna's departure. While the appointment is political in nature, the present Albany administration should be complimented for appointing not only the most qualified candidate but the most deserving, as known from our association.

Paul is a very fair and knowledgeable individual, with 24 years NYSDEC experience. But most of all, he is one of the most ethical individuals you will ever meet. He is considerate to his employees and the public alike. Courteousness and professionalism are his trademarks.

Congratulations to NYSDEC for their choice based on merit and ability. But most of all, congratulations to the employees and the residents of Region 8. You couldn't be better served.

JOHN T. HICKS,

SEAN HANNA

Hicks was DEC regional director from 1997 to 2003; Hanna served in that position from 2003 to 2007.
