Kids loves Halloween, but many of the area haunted houses might be too intense for younger tykes. The RE/MAX NY Balloon Manor offers some family-friendly spooky treats while showing off some impressive artistic tricks.
This is the third year for Balloon Manor, which was previously held in 2004 and 2006. This year's incarnation will feature 10 rooms covering 10,000 square feet and filled with more than 100,000 balloons transformed into sculptures by 60 national artists, including Rochester's own "airigamist" Larry Moss.
This year's theme is "Elastic Park: The World's First-Ever Balloon Scream Park." Constructs include an elaborate, creepy carousel, a witch and cauldron, a spooky garden gnome, and much more - all made out of balloons. This year will also feature original music by Rochester composer/percussionist Ward Hartenstein.
Balloon Manor is located at the Medley Centre (formerly Irondequoit Mall) and opens its doors Friday, October 19, 3-9:30 p.m. and runs this week Saturday, October 20, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 21, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. It returns Wednesday, October 24, through Sunday, October 28. Tickets at the door cost $6 for ages 4-12 (3 and under free), $10 for adults, and proceeds benefit Rochester-area health charities. Fore more information check out balloonmanor.com.
