FAMILY: Multicultural Bazaar

Published by Eric Rezsnyak on Oct 10, 2007

The Christian holiday season may still be more than a month away, but one of the biggest celebrations in the Muslim community is just around the corner. Ramadan, the month of fasting, comes to an end on Friday, October 12, with Eid al Fitr, a great feast. The Rochester Museum & Science Center takes part in the celebration with the Muslim Multicultural Bazaar on Sunday, October 14.

Members of the Rochester Masjid of Al Islam will lead the event. It's a good opportunity for families to learn about the observance. There will be traditional foods, children activities, and more, all absolutely free. The party takes place in the RMSC's Eisenhart Auditorium 1-5 p.m.

The Multicultural Bazaar is the first program in the RMSC's annual Holiday Celebrations series, which spotlight traditions from all over the world. The rest of this year's schedule includes a program on Sinterklaas (December 1-2), a Dutch celebration; a Chanukah program (December 9) led by the Hillel School; and an exploration of Kwanzaa (December 28) presented by the Kwanzaa Coalition. There will also be an alternative take "The Night Before Christmas" on December 23.

The RMSC is located at 657 East Avenue. For more information on these or other events log on to rmsc.org or call 271-4320.
