Any child under the age of 13 could tell you exactly who Lemony Snicket is. The elusive author of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is a depressed loner who spends his time researching the tragic Baudelaire orphans and hiding from electrical equipment. He is as intriguing as any of the bizarre characters in his wildly successful young adult series. Snicket's real-life counterpart, Daniel Handler, will launch the 2007 edition of the Rochester Arts & Lectures Series on Thursday, October 4.
Although his mysterious alter-ego receives all the attention, Handler is an accomplished author in his own right. Under his own name he has published several books of young adult fiction and a collection of short stories called "Adverbs."
The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. at Downtown United Presbyterian Church, 121 N Fitzhugh Street. Series tickets are sold out, but a limited number of standing-room only tickets will be available for $15 starting at 6:45 p.m. For more information call 546-8658 of visit artsandlectures.org.
