POLITICS: Grilling the candidates

Published on Oct 02, 2007
We all know which way this year's endorsements will go, and I have often disagreed, but City always made its case. Your editorial staff did its homework and had a foundation for its choices.

I would like to see you take a different approach: Ask the candidates to explain why the voters should continue with the party in power.

Why should we continue to accept failing schools, rampant crime in portions of the community, loss of jobs, backroom manipulation of positions to improve the political opportunity for party favorites, etc., etc.?

To make the endorsement process rote is to contribute to the problem. Can we find some candidates who can be creative, who can get tough, who won't simply follow?

And don't let the "other" party off the hook, either, for not providing adequate resources to city races.
