In spite of itself punk rock is 30 years old - at least to those who salute 1977 as its first year. The Stooges, The Dolls, and The Ramones may disagree, but the festivities have begun, including the October issue of Spin, which catalogues punk rock highlights from the past 30 years. And you know what? So-Cal punk heroes Bad Religion made the list four times.
I caught 'em at this year's Warped Tour and it's easy to see why - and why the band is still here. It ripped through its set fast 'n' angry. Considered oldsters next to the rest of the line-up, Bad Religion had unparalleled energy and a complete lack of bullshit. The new album, "New Maps Of Hell," is as good as anything the band has ever done.
Bad Religion plays the Town Ballroom, 681 Main Street, Buffalo, Friday, October 12, 8 p.m., $25-$30, 888-223-6000.
