Arranging a Richard Strauss tone poem for just five instruments is kind of like chipping Stonehenge down to the size of a paperweight, but composer Franz Hasenohrl did just that with ingenuity and wit. The Society of Chamber Music will offer Strauss' "Till Eulenspiegel-Einmal Anders" ("Another Way") in a program of transcriptions that includes "Wine, Women and Song" by Johann Strauss, transcriptions by Georges Enesco, Igor Stravinsky, and selections from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess." If you go you'll have the chance to watch top-notch performers up close, including clarinetist Kenneth Grant, principal horn W. Peter Kurau, bassoonist Abraham Weiss, violinists Juliana Athayde and Shannon Nance, and more.
