It's not easy to remain calm while listening to violinist Billy Bang's latest album, "Above & Beyond." Whether Bang is playing off the lines of the late saxophonist Frank Lowe or taking a long, fiery solo excursion of his own, the energy is palpable. Of course, anyone who has caught him on stage at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, accompanying Garth Fagan Dance, or at a local club knows what I'm talking about. When Bang creates a musical vortex with his violin it's easy to get caught up in the swirl.
