JAZZ: Branford Marsalis (11/17)

Published by Ron Netsky on Nov 14, 2007
Even if he were not a member of the first family of jazz, tenor saxophonist Branford Marsalis would be on the short list of current jazz greats. After paying his dues in the bands of Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Sting, and his brother Wynton, Marsalis has established himself as a leader to reckon with. His muscular sax sound can be heard on 18 albums under his name and countless others as a side man. Three decades into his career he has garnered three Grammy awards. Marsalis' excellent band includes Joey Calderazzo (piano), Eric Revis (bass), and Jeff "Tain" Watts (drums).
