LITERATURE: The Big Read

What if everyone in Rochester read the same book? What if everyone in America did? Well, The Big Read isn't exactly that, but it has picked out a few of history's most beloved books and communities across America are reading them. This National Endowment for the Arts initiative lasts about two months. Local affiliate Writers & Books chose "The Maltese Falcon," based partly on our large film community. A wide variety of programming supports it, running from book discussions, contests, and dramatic performances and film screenings, culminating with a closing party on November 30 at the Memorial Art Gallery.
