We all like a little recognition, whether we deserve it or not. Ex-Democrat and Chronicle film critic - he retired from his regular column earlier this year - Jack Garner deserves it. And on Friday, November 9, the George Eastman House will give him some of his due. Garner will be presented with the George Eastman Medal of Honor for his "meritorious service to the advancement of the principles embodied by George Eastman."
The award presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by a screening of one of Garner's favorite films, "On the Waterfront." After the film, audience members are invited to question Garner about his career as a film critic.
The George Eastman House is located at 900 East Avenue. Tickets cost $75 for the entire event and $10 ($8 for members and students) for the film only. Call the Dryden Theatre Box Office at 271-3361 x 214 to reserve your seat.
