ART: "A Natural History" (Through 12/23)

We all have shrines. They may be a special corner in our home that we call our own, an altar of items reminding us of our spiritual beliefs, or even some beliefs themselves, which we hold on to because they give meaning to our lives. Jessica Marquez has created a shrine to her world and her family with her exhibition at Booksmart's Pin Up Gallery. "A Natural History" explores the themes of identity and memory within a setting reminiscent of a miniature Victorian parlor room. The curiosities include objects in a 45-drawer card catalog, silhouette images, showcases of family items, and DNA coding. This miniature museum is on display through December 21, Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Booksmart is located at 250 North Goodman Street. Call the gallery at 598-9322.
