"Nothing is, and everything is becoming." Such is the artist's statement of Steve Carpenter. It would seem to be a paradox, like a Zen koan, if it weren't also so logically true. Nothing stays the same, the only constant being change. Which, again, seems a paradox.
Carpenter's third annual invitational show, "Adjusting Reality," invites us to question our automatic associations. Six artists - Lynette Blake, Elyse Capell, Margot Fass, Kevin Feary, Meredith Mallwitz, and Janet Mirsky - explore different meanings of themes running from still life to time. All artists will be present for a talk and discussion on opening day, Friday, December 7, at 5:30 p.m. An opening reception begins at 7 p.m. The group exhibit runs through December 21, open for viewing daily 1-4 p.m.
The Steve Carpenter Gallery & Art Center is located at 176 Anderson Avenue. The Gallery can be reached at 758-1410 or visited online at stevercarpenterstudio.com.
