If you're wondering what bouldering is, think about rock climbing, but make it scarier. Bouldering usually involves scaling boulders with an added daredevil touch: no safety ropes. In order to stay safe (or alive), climbers often place a crash pad below them and chalk up their hands for a better grip. RockVentures Indoor Climbing Facility brings in ballsy boulder climbers for its bouldering competition on Sunday, December 16. The competition allows area climbers to compete for a chance to attend the nationals held, appropriately, in Boulder, Colorado.
Registration for the contest costs $30-$35 for American Bouldering Series members and $35-40 for non-members. For observers, the cost is $5 which includes pizza and a drink. Registration takes place at 10 a.m. and the competition runs 1-4:30 p.m. For information, call 442-5462 and speak with Kent or Melissa or visit www.rockventures.net. - BY SUSANNAH SNIDER
