Straight outta New York and sounding a little like Soundgarden In Living Color, ZO2's "Ain't It Beautiful" hits the ground hard and heavy. The band vacillates between the heavy and the melodic as if it can't make up its mind. But then again, bands that find a balance often do so at the expense of the music's edge. So ZO2 see-saws between hard rock and melodic pop rock. So what? It sounds big and catchy and fun. ZO2 is one shade heavier than conventional modern rock and one shade shy of metal. The band has appropriately warmed the boards for AC/DC and KISS. It's just big, bad, rock 'n' roll. What else do you want?
