THEATER: "Jewtopia"

Published by Susannah Snider on Dec 05, 2007

Mistaken identity is a comedic gag that never goes out of style. From Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" to "Some Like it Hot," there's something indescribably hilarious about pretending to be someone else. The Off-Broadway smash sensation "Jewtopia," which comes to the JCC this December, uses this timeless comedic device to tell the tale of a Christian man who pretends to be Jewish to woo a Jewish girl and avoid making decisions for the rest of his life. His plans lead him into a world of over-bearing Jewish mothers, left-wing political views, and every other Jewish stereotype under the sun.

"Jewtopia" comes to the Jewish Community Center as part of JCC's CenterStage productions. The show runs December 8-31. Tickets cost $22 for adults and $15 for students. Call the JCC 461-2000 for tickets or visit jccrochester.org for show times.
