ART: Carrie Mae Weems, "All About Eve" (2/8-3/9)

Published on Feb 06, 2007

World-renowned artist/photographer Carrie Mae Weems is best known for her socio-political work that confronts and challenges stereotypes. She employs photographs, text, fabric, audio, and video to create highly intellectual and often narrative art that forces viewers to question gender roles, family relations, racism, and cultural identity. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Beginning Thursday, February 8, and running through Friday, March 9, the University of Rochester's Hartnett Gallery will hold an exhibition of Weems' works titled All about Eve. The show will feature some of Weems' older pieces and her most recent work, including her newest video project, "Italian Dreams."

An artist's talk with Weems and visual arts critic Cheryl Kaplan will take place Monday, February 12, in the Gowen Room of Wilson Commons at 4 p.m., followed by a reception 5:30-7 p.m.

The Hartnett Gallery is located in Wilson Commons and is open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, noon-6 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 275-4188 or visit http://sa.rochester.edu/hartnett.
