This local, improvisational five-piece mashes together free jazz with rock stylings for a volatile, yet often delicate, mix. BABO consists of five highly sophisticated visions that not only crystallize on the spot, but slam, slide, combine, and re-combine together. Influences include Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, the Boredoms, and the MC5 (whom saxophonist and quasi-frontman Ed Downey played with in the late '60s). The group chemistry, a constant flux between cohesion and contrast in five dimensions, results in music with truly unique shadings and shapes.
