Tenor saxophonist Pat LaBarbera was born in Mt. Morris, NY, to a family that would produce three notable jazz players. (The others are drummer Joe LaBarbera and trumpeter/arranger John LaBarbera.) He joined the Buddy Rich Band when he was fresh out of Berklee College of Music. Influenced by the style of John Coltrane, LaBarbera went on to tour and record extensively with Coltrane's drummer, Elvin Jones. More recently LaBarbera has been an influential figure, as an educator and player, on the Toronto jazz scene. His considerable improvisational skills should be on display when he steps in as featured guest with guitarist Bob Sneider's band at the Strathallan Friday and Saturday evenings.
Pat LaBarbera joins Bob Sneider Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17, 8:30 p.m.-midnight, at the Strathallan, 550 East Avenue. No cover.
