ROCK: Valentine's Day Massacre (2/10)

Published by Dayna Papaleo on Feb 06, 2007

Dear Valentine's Day Massacre:

We can't do this anymore. You come around once a year, offering up a fancy bouquet of local bands covering classics about love, lust, and other gorgeous torments, and expect me to spend a long, fiery night basking in your talent. The grapevine says you've got roomier digs at the Bug Jar this time out. Is that supposed to impress me?

I couldn't care less that the Blastoffs, Emersons, Grinders, Purrs, and Quitters are all playing. And it doesn't matter that Bee Eater, Brokedown, and Tom Foolery and the Shannanighans will take the stage as well. Oh, and the annual materialization of VD Clinic, featuring elusive former Retread Jen Santoro, thrills me almost as much as a gas station rosebud.

Well, we've definitely had our fun, and you do have all a girl could want. Truthfully, I can't resist you. But I'm going to continue to see other rock shows.

Love, Dayna.

The 6th Annual Valentine's Day Massacre courts the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue, 454-2966, on Saturday, February 10, at 9 p.m. $6, 21+. www.bugjar.com
