She applied lipstick with her cleavage, was serenaded by a fella named Duckie, and got felt up by her grandma. Now she's headed for Rochester as eternal optimist Charity Hope Valentine. That's right; '80s movie princess Molly Ringwald is starring in the touring revival of the Neil Simon musical comedy Sweet Charity, opening at the Auditorium Theatre on Tuesday, February 13.
Sweet Charity tells the story of a dance hall hostess desperately looking for love in New York City, with little luck. After being almost drowned by her boyfriend Charlie in the opening act, Charity continues on her hopeful quest. With music by Cy Coleman, the show features celebrated numbers "If My Friends Could See Me Now," "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This," and "Hey, Big Spender." A great show for both Valentine's Day couples and bitter singles.
The show runs through Sunday, February 18 and tickets range from $27.50 to $50.50. For more information visit the Rochester Broadway Theatre League at www.rbtl.org or call 325-7760.
