THEATRE: "Shout! The Mod Musical" (2/14-ongoing)

Published on Feb 13, 2007

After a six-month off-Broadway run, Shout! The Mod Musical makes its Rochester debut this week at the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Center. The New York City version of the show was heralded by Good Morning America as "the hottest new musical in New York."

The show takes place in 1960s England and follows the lives of five young women coming of age during the turbulent, yet liberating times. Employing such songs as "Son of a Preacher Man," "Downtown," "To Sir with Love," and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," the musical transports viewers back to the swinging '60s, complete with era-appropriate dancing, costumes, and hair.

The Downstairs Cabaret production will hold preview performances Wednesday, February 14, through Friday, February 16, before the show officially opens on Saturday, February 17. Shout will play locally for several weeks before going out on tour, and then return to Rochester later this spring.

Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Center is located at 540 East Main Street. Tickets are $24-$27. For more information or a schedule call 325-4370 or visit the website at www.downstairscabaret.com.
