The Rochester Fund for Educational Accountability, a Rochester school district watchdog group, is sponsoring "Parent Power: Public Forum on Sunshine Laws in Public Schools" with guest speaker Robert Freeman, executive director of the New York State Committee on Open Government. He'll speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Downtown United Presbyterian Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street across from City Hall.Governor Eliot Spitzer has budgeted money for stem cell research, but should we support that move? Hear the economic, medical, and ethical perspectives of Dean Ronald Hansen and Dr. Howard Federoff from the UR and the Rev. Peter Peters from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. Sponsored by Interfaith Impact of New York State, the discussion is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue.The Rochester Committee on Latin America will hold its annual rice and beans dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at Downtown United Presbyterian Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street. The group will present its White Dove award to Dr. Magda Enriquez, who will discuss her life as a Sandinista militant and events that led up to the recent re-election of Daniel Ortega as president of Nicaragua. A second White Dove award will be given to Michael Argaman, an activist with Metro Justice. The suggested cost: $25 per person, but no one will be turned away. The Center for Environmental Information and the US Green Building Council-Upstate New York Chapter will host "Building the Triple Bottom Line: Profitability, Sustainability, and Wellness," workshops that will take place during the Green Products Expo at Monroe Community College on Saturday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace and the Geneseo Ecumenical Peace Coalition will sponsor a candlelight vigil to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Iraq War. The vigil will take place at the fountain on Main Street in Geneseo at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19.Director Dan Lohaus' film "When I Came Home," a documentary about homeless veterans, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road. The screening is the first in a series of activities planned to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Iraq War.An Interfaith Silent Vigil for Peace is planned for Sunday, March 18, at noon on the corner of East Avenue and Goodman Street. Sponsors of the vigil to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Iraq War include the Greater Rochester Community of Churches.
