CLASSICAL: Nathan Fischer & Madrigalia (3/17)

Published by Brenda Tremblay on Mar 13, 2007

Nathan Fischer oversees "guitar heaven," the Alexandria (Virginia) Guitar Festival. The Eastman grad and Fredonia professor will return to Rochester for a fascinating collaboration with the 18 singers of Madrigalia and director Roger Wilhelm. In two unusual performances, the group will perform Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Romancero Gitano (1951), a setting of texts by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, and Via Crucis (The Way of the Cross), a cycle of 15 saetas written for chorus and Spanish guitar. A saeta is a Spanish folksong performed during a halt in a traditional Spanish Lenten procession. Two performances: Saturday, March 17, at St. Anne Church, 1600 Mt. Hope Avenue, 8 p.m., $8-$15; and Sunday, March 18, at St. Mary's Church, 15 Clark Street, Auburn, 234-4283, 4 p.m., $5-$10.
