PUNK: Tom Foolery & the Shannanighans (3/16-3/17)

Published by Frank De Blase on Mar 13, 2007

Tom Foolery & the Shannanighans put the rock back in shamrock, and then stomp on it. It's amazing, exuberant, excessive, loud, fast, 100per cent pure punk rock with an Irish slant. With a wink and a toast and an accelerated count to four, this Rochester quintet puts on shows of staggering endurance. Bloody knuckles, ringing ears, hickeys, and a patchy recollection of the previous night's goings-on are the signs of a good band, if you ask me.

You can catch the band twice this week, when it celebrates the Fourth Annual St. Patrick's Day Throwdown Friday, March 16, Monty's Krown Lounge, 875 Monroe Avenue, 271-7050, 10 p.m., $3; and Saturday, March 17, Dub Land Underground, 315 Alexander Street, 2 p.m. (after the parade), $1.
