The Bloody Hollies just get better and better with each record. The former Buffalo trio's spasticity and speed threaten to spin out of control on the new Who to Trust, Who To Kill, Who To Love LP as usual, but the talent and maturity --- in the songwriting especially --- make this another great rock 'n' roll record. The tantrum still rages within singer Wesley Doyle's soul as it leaves his throat with some of his guts in tow. Some slippery forays into slide guitar atop a solid punk beat (the kids like it) is just a whole lotta fun. The boys hang their hats in San Diego now (previous disc If Footmen Tire You won Best Rock Album Of The Year at The San Diego Music Awards) but it lacks the soot, salt, cold, and attitude that growing up here instills in a musician. This is home, baby.
Welcome The Bloody Hollies back when the band plays nice with Ithaca surf demons The Mofos Thursday, March 8, at The Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue, 454-2966, 8 p.m., $5-$7
