Cool Kids' Coolest Earth Day

Published by Linda Kostin on Apr 10, 2007

Some families would travel to the four corners of the globe to celebrate Earth Day in style. Others might need a little incentive for a mid-week road trip to Batavia. If you fall into the latter category, listen up: they don't call it the Coolest Earth Day for nothing.

On Thursday, April 19, enjoy family events from 5 to 8 p.m. at Genesee Community College Forum, One College Road, Batavia, kicking off with a campus cleanup 5-6:15 p.m. Remember, you might get dirty when showing Mother Earth a little love, so wear appropriate clothing. Gloves and bags provided. "Last year, we had about 80 people participating in the cleanup. It was amazing!" says Steve Appleton, Cool Kids Director.

A pizza party follows at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., World of Wildlife Education Encounters will present an exotic animal show.

Earn raffle tickets by donating e-scrap --- unwanted electronic gear including printers, monitors, TVs, and microwaves --- wearing green clothes, participating in the campus clean up, and getting your tire pressure checked. Prizes include a $200 mountain bike.

More than 20 activities are planned, including making Earth masks and scrap art with recycled items, eco board games, and recycling Olympics races at 7:30 p.m. All this, and a seedling giveaway, too.

All events --- including the pizza party --- are free. Visit www.generationcool.biz, or call 637-3984 or 345-6832.
