ENVIRONMENT: Stop the next disaster!

Published on Apr 10, 2007
Scientists predicted that if a big hurricane hit New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain would flood the city and people would die. Because people did not listen to the scientists or have the political will to fix the levees, I lost my home in New Orleans to Hurricane Katrina and evacuated to Rochester.

Now scientists are predicting that if we don't stop pouring carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from our cars and power plants, global warming will wreak havoc on evaporation patterns to cause droughts, floods, rising sea levels, extinction of species, and food and water shortages. If people do not listen to the scientists or have the political will to use existing technology to switch to renewable energy and more efficient transportation, and the planet becomes uninhabitable, where will I evacuate to then?
