"Sin," your bottom line summarizing the Bush administration is right on target ("A Week for Mourning," March 21). In a Newsweek interview shortly after his second inauguration, George W. revealed that before sending in the troops, he had prayed to God for forgiveness.
Get that, everyone? For forgiveness.
Before charging into combat, a leader might pray for courage. Or for success. Or for luck. Or even for rain. But to pray for forgiveness confesses that one is aware either of committing or being about to commit a crime for which that person seeks pardon, absolution, forgiveness.
