The fact that Laurence Juber spent three years as Paul McCartney's lead guitar player in Wings (that's him on "Goodnight Tonight" and "Coming Up") oughta get you in the door. But Juber's beautifully fluid steel string acoustic playing will keep you there. His latest outing, I've Got The World On Six Strings, has this masterful guitarist exploring the music of Harold Arlen. The whole record sounds like a smile. And no matter how interwoven the notes get picked and plucked, Arlen's melodies are visibly smiling too. Martin Guitars has honored Juber with his own LJ signature model guitar. That should tell you something.
Laurence Juberplays with the Alex Skolnick Trio Thursday, April 12, at Water Street Music Hall, 204 North Water Street, 325-5600, 7:30 p.m., $18-$24 ($7 w/student ID).
