Violin, oud, and percussion may not sound like the ingredients of a hot jazz band. But Trio Tarana, featuring Ravish Momin (percussion), Sam Bardfeld (violin), and Brandon Terzic (oud), cooks, and the result is a powerful jazz-inflected ethnic stew. The group takes South Asian and Middle Eastern music and adds jazz improvisation to create highly sophisticated and intriguing music. If Barfeld's name seems familiar, he recorded and toured as part of Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions Band.
