POLITICS: Races are starting for County Legislature

Published by Jeremy Moule on Apr 10, 2007

Pittsford Democrat Ted Nixon is making another run for the County Legislature.

In 2005, Nixon challenged Republican Bill Smith for the 10th District seat, which includes Pittsford and East Rochester. Smith won and serves as the Legislature's majority leader. But he won't be running this year because of term limits.

Nixon, a teacher in the Churchville-Chili school district, will officially announce his candidacy at two news conferences on Thursday. He will be joined by Democracy for America chair Jim Dean, brother of former presidential candidate Howard Dean, now the Democratic National Committee's chair.

Smith is among the first of the Democrats to announce his candidacy for the Legislature. Spencerport resident Todd Dunn, a civil engineer and RIT faculty member, will run for the 1st District seat, which includes Parma, Sweden, and Clarkson.

Also on Thursday, the Irondequoit Democratic Committee is expected to endorse a candidate for the town's 16th District seat.
