Anson Funderburgh twiddled the knobs on John Nemeth's new Magic Touch, his debut for Blind Pig, so you know it's alreet. In fact, this 31-year-old Boise cat is an ex-Rocket. Nemeth is a soulful singer whose wails come from somewhere deep, and are punctuated by some nice 'n' dirty harp. Nemeth's reserve is commendable as well, opting for the lower gears in stead of speed and flash. This is the slickster/hipster blues kept alive by outfits like Little Charlie and the Nightcats. Nemeth is retro enough to be cool yet contemporary enough to snag those new to the blues. They're all gonna like it when Nemeth is playing.
