BLUES: Maria Muldaur (5/12)

Published by Ryan Whirty on May 08, 2007

Born and raised in Greenwich Village, Maria Muldaur cut her musical teeth amidst that community's folk-and-roots revival in the early 1960s. Performing first with bluegrass and jug bands, she was also tutored by classic blues singer Victoria Spivey, who further sparked Muldaur's interest in American roots music. On her latest CD, "Naughty, Bawdy and Blue," scheduled for release May 15, Muldaur completes a trilogy of tribute albums honoring Spivey and other early blues women. In four-plus decades of making music, Muldaur has covered the entire gamut of traditional American music, and she's done it with a uniquely personal flair.

Maria Muldaur will play a free, all-ages concert on Saturday, May 12, at 7 p.m. at the Lilac Festival's main stage in Highland Park.
