Sandra Parker of the Rochester Business Alliance and James Bertolone of the Labor Council will talk about health care and business in New York at a League of Women Voters program on Thursday, May 3. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Valley Manor, 1570 East Avenue.Metro Justice holds itsannual dinner on Sunday, May 6, at 6 p.m. Adrianne Shropshire, executive director of New York Jobs, is the keynote speaker. Her talk, "Taking Our Country Back in the Name of Justice," is at 7:30 p.m. at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue. Dinner tickets are $15 to $35 in advance, $30 at the door. Proceeds will go to Hagar USA, a faith-based organization committed to stopping human trafficking in Cambodia. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at Roberts Cultural Life Center, Hale Auditorium, 2301 Westside Drive. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.roberts.edu or by calling 594-6008.Action for a Better Community will sponsor "Spring into Health" on Saturday, May 5, at the North Street Recreation Center, 700 North Street. The event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will address home and environmental issues such as asthma, lead poisoning, household chemical exposure, and carbon monoxide.Literacy Volunteers of Rochester, which needs volunteers to teach adults how to read, write, and speak English, will hold information sessions on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m., and Monday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. After attending a session, volunteers can register for training workshops that will be held in early June. Each candidate will make a presentation, and there'll be time for questions from the audience. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the school, 999 South Avenue. Parking is available behind the school.
