CLASSICAL: Gregory Kunde Chorale (5/6)

Published by Brenda Tremblay on May 02, 2007
If you're in the mood for choral music, here's an embarrassment of riches for you.

On Saturday at Hochstein, Eric Townell conducts The Rochester Oratorio Society and orchestra in a light, spring mix of favorites, including "The Anvil Chorus" from Il Trovatore. (details at rossings.org

Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's on East Avenue, David Fetler will conduct St. Paul's Choir in some of his own imaginative anthems and the breathtaking Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Incredibly, this performance will mark Dr. Fetler's last as St. Paul's choirmaster after more than half a century at that post. (details at stpaulsec.org.)

For the distillation of pure joy, you might pick a Sunday afternoon show featuring Mozart's elegant, florid Exsultate Jubilate performed by the Gregory Kunde Chorale.  Respected operatic tenor Gregory Kunde will also conduct the polished Rochester chamber choir and an orchestra in Handel´s Ode on Saint Cecilia´s Day, and Vaughan Williams´ Serenade To Music. Sunday, May 6th at 4:00 p.m. Christ The King Church, 445 Kings Highway, Irondequoit. ($22-12, free for children under 12.)  377-7568. gregorykundechorale.org.  All ages.
