CLASSICAL: Pegasus Early Music (5/4-5/5)

Published by Marjorie Roth on May 02, 2007

Spring weather may fluctuate, but the virtuosic performances promised for "La Primavera," the final concert in Pegasus Early Music's 2006-07 season, cannot fail to warm things up. The program consists of works inspired by poems in praise of springtime, including settings of Guarini's "O Primavera," violin sonatas by Castello and Marini, and works by Francesca Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, and Claudio Monteverdi. Deborah Fox, artistic director of Pegasus Early Music (lute, theorbo, baroque guitar), will be joined by acclaimed soprano Laura Heimes, and the multi-talented Dana Maiben (Baroque violin, harpsichord). Expert stylistic interpretation and impetuous improvisation are guaranteed. Informal pre-concert talks one hour before each performance.

Pegasus Early Music performs "La Primavera," Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, 8 p.m., and Sunday, May 6, 4 p.m. at the Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue, 703-3990, $15-$20.
