Mike Patton once remarked that more artists should make music that isn't danceable. If you feel the same, you might be in luck with Chicago's Pit er Pat, a trio that makes delicate music that emphasizes texture and atmosphere over groove. Strangely though, Pit er Pat's work does suggest motion and grace, but it lends itself more to what a stoned ballet dancer might come up with if improvising freely at home, away from the structured restriction of rehearsal. The band weaves live, indie-style instrumentation and electronic programming for a hushed sound that hangs together loosely and feels, well, light on its feet. The mix of soft vocals, keyboards, bird chirps, and various other found sounds belie a band that clearly knows the difference between quiet and timid.
Pit er Pat, White/Lichens, and Science vs Witchcraft play Saturday, May 5, at 9 p.m. at the A\V Space, 8 Public Market, $7.
