LIBRARY: Our squabble's on-line

Published by Jeremy Moule on May 01, 2007
County Executive Maggie Brooks' internet-filter move and the subsequent community reaction have attracted attention far beyond the reaches of Rochester. The American Library Association has been posting updates on its website.

Writing to the Philippine newspaper Sun Star, student Fernelle C. Rodriguez summarized the county's debate and wondered how the issue would play in the Philippines.

And Family Friendly Libraries awarded Brooks its Gold Star Award for her move against the library. The Virginia-based organization focuses on keeping "pornography" and "age-inappropriate materials" out of the library. It has developed its own standards and policies as an alternative to those of the American Library Association.
